Health Check

Home - Health Check

Every site slowly looses it's edge as time goes by. This is especially true if there is little or no dedicated, routine maintenance - often the case for busy small business owners who have plenty of other jobs to worry about!

It's not all bad news though. Often all a site needs is a little TLC and it's as good as new again.

This is where the bertha net Health Check comes in. This free service checks all those important things, from working links to valid code. (Code is what actually makes a Web page work and the standards are laid down by W3C, the Web's governing body).

Why bother? Search Engines, that's why! Google even publishes extensive guidelines to help Web site owners maximise their "search friendlyness". If you want to have a look click here, but be warned they're on the technical side so here's a quick TOP 5 intead;

These are the most important "do's"

  1. Give visitors the information they're looking for.
  2. Make sure that other sites link to yours.
  3. Make your site easily accessible.
  4. Update your site regularly.
  5. Use "correct" HTML code.

  and these are the most important "don'ts"

  1. Avoid hidden text or hidden links.
  2. Don't employ cloaking or sneaky redirects.
  3. Don't send automated queries to Google.
  4. Don't participate in schemes designed to increase your site's ranking.
  5. Don't use computer programs to submit pages (or pay others to do it for you).

Only by keeping your site healthy can you hope to stay high in search results. Don't forget this is a free service with first aid work often costing as little as £50, a small price for keeping this vital marketing tool working for you.
