The 0x00000024 Blue Screen of Death.

Blue Screen of DeathThankfully the "Blue Screen of Death" isn't seen with the regularity it used to be back in the days of Windows 98. Unfortunately, when it does makes an appearance now, it is usually much more serious. This particular version, error code 0x00000024, can prove fatal and the only solution is to re-install Windows.

This of course means everything is lost from your hard drive, documents, photos of the kids on the beach, your entire music collection - everything gone in one go!

Luckily when Mr J saw this early in 2010 he had a full set of installation discs and his back up routine meant all his files were duplicated up to a month earlier. As a result Bertha managed to restore everything with only a day or two of no computer.

The moral? Make sure you create a full set of installation (sometimes called set-up) discs and back up your files at regular intervals.

Don't know how to make the discs? Only a few years ago the discs were supplied with the computer, now they tend to have to be made using a program found on your shiny new computer. Somewhere under "All Programs" (Click on the "Start" logo bottom left and then "All Programs") there will be the name of your computer's manufacturer. Look for the user guide and find the instructions how to make the discs - then keep them safe! Sorry about being vague with the above instructions but every manufacturer does it slightly different.

For help how to back up your files look out for the Guide on Cobian Backup coming soon.
