The Mothers’ Union.

The Mothers' Union is St Wilfrid's newest society being formed as recently as the 6th October 2006. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month in the Church and, as we only have 26 members (21 women and 5 men), everyone's welcome.

Our meetings consist of a short service, a talk or discussion (on many and various subjects) and finish with a time for socialising to end. Any volunteers or suggestions for our talks are always welcome.

The Branch leader is Muriel Farley and Deputy Branch leader Elizabeth Paver. Contact Muriel on 01302 535809 for any information.

THE AIM of the Mothers’ Union is the advancement of Christian religion in the sphere of marriage and family life and are achieved by following our aims and objects.

  1. To uphold Christ’s teaching on the nature of marriage and to promote its wider understanding.
  2. To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church.
  3. To maintain a world-wide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service.
  4. To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.
  5. To help those whose family life has met with adversity.

THE PURPOSE of the Mothers’ Union is to be specially concerned with all that strengthens and preserves marriage and Christian family life.

On 30th October 2007 we were pleased to welcome Rosemary Kempsell, the World Wide President, to a service and social gathering here at St Wilfrid's. This, of course, was a huge honour for both the Mother's Union and the parish as a whole and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.

To see what you missed or to re-live the night here's the slide show of the night's events which will open in a new window.

Wednesday Morning Coffee Group

Our Coffee Group was started in October 2000 and has been running continuously ever since. Every Wednesday Morning from 10a.m. to Noon two members of the Group run the Coffee Morning for everyone to join in.

In the Church they provide a welcome with, for a small charge, tea or coffee and scones, cakes and sometimes sausage rolls. Small cakes and pastries are also On Sale.

In this small way we have been able to provide help with the funds greatly needed to keep our church beautiful for future generations.

The Group organiser is Anne Southward.

The Flower Club

The Flower Club is responsible for all the floral displays throughout the church and we always make a special effort for important dates in the church calendar.

The Group organiser is Barbara Sands who will be only too happy to tell anyone (or everyone!) about our "in memory" flower scheme.
