Anecdotal evidence suggests that 90% of people who use Microsoft Office, make use of just 10% of its features. As the most basic version of Office is around £100 that means you are using a whole £10 worth of the program.

No wonder Microsoft made over £4 billion in the last three months of 2009!

Fortunately there is an alternative called OpenOffice. It has all the features needed by the majority (90%) of Office users and is free for anyone to use.

The OpenOffice suite comprises a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation program. A database, drawing and formula writing programs complete the suite.

OpenOffice files are even compatible with Microsoft Office programs so you can be sure to always be able to swap files with others.

Still unsure? Try it anyway, it doesn't cost anything to download after all!

The Bertha Guide to OpenOffice.org show how to install and configure OpenOffice to be fully compatible with Microsoft files - essential for sharing your letters, accounts and presentations with others.
